The Colliding Worlds of Curcumin and Osteopathy

Osteopathy and Osteopaths focus their practice on interconnected wellness and a holistic approach to healthcare. This includes optimising musculoskeletal health through nutrition and natural supplements. Enter: Curcumin

What is Curcumin?
Curcumin is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in the spice turmeric. It belongs to a group of compounds called curcuminoids, which are responsible for the yellow colour of turmeric. Curcumin has been studied extensively for its potential health benefits, including its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, particularly in Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system of India. In modern times, curcumin supplements have become popular for various health purposes.

Research on its effectiveness is still ongoing.

Benefits of Curcumin
Some of the potential benefits of curcumin include:

  1. Anti-inflammatory properties: Curcumin is known for its strong anti-inflammatory properties. It can help reduce inflammation in the body, which may be beneficial for chronic joint pain in joints such as the knee, elbow and shoulders as well as conditions such as arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and other inflammatory conditions.
  2. Antioxidant activity: Curcumin has antioxidant properties, which means it can help neutralize harmful free radicals in the body.
  3. Pain relief: Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, curcumin may help alleviate pain associated with conditions like arthritis. Studies have shown it also aids muscle recovery after high intensity exercise.
  4. Brain health: Curcumin may have neuroprotective properties and could help improve cognitive function due to it’s anti inflammatory effects. Current emerging evidence suggests that neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease  have an underlying inflammatory cause.
  5. Heart health: Curcumin may help improve heart health by reducing inflammation.
  6. Digestive health: Curcumin has been studied for its potential benefits in digestive health, including its ability to reduce symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. It may also help promote healthy digestion and alleviate symptoms of indigestion and bloating.

The benefits of curcumin can be difficult to obtain because it is not water soluble and therefore not easily absorbed.

We stock a range of Nano Nutrient products here at Healthwise. And Nano nutrients have created a nano (micro) particle liquid curcumin supplement called Herbal Harmonizer, using clean technology which greatly increases the bioavailability and absorption of curcumin into the blood stream. The micro size allows the nutrients to traverse the biological barriers of the body more efficiently, navigating through cellular membranes to ensure that the highest percentage of nutrients possible are absorbed into the body. It is therefore one of the most potent products.
